There’s nothing like being in flow with your wellness routine. When you’re consistently eating clean, working out, and making time for rest + rejuvenation, you just feel better. But when you quite literally have to depart from your day-to-day routine to travel, whether for work or pleasure, those wellness habits can easily be left behind.
While your wellness routine might not look exactly the same as it does when you’re at home—If you hit the road with a plan for maintaining a wellness routine while you’re away, you’ll be more likely to keep your body and mind feeling good. We have put together some travel tips to help you feel a sense of balance no matter where in the world you are.
It’s easy to forget to drink the same amount of water you do at home when you’re on the move most of your day. But drinking enough water will help your body cope better when you’re taxed with the stress of travel. Drinking enough water will help your body manage your energy and help you avoid the effects of dehydration like fatigue and bloating. Pack a travel-sized water bottle with you and fill it up often. The Aerospace Medical Association, recommends you drink about eight ounces of water for every hour you're in the air. Pro-Tip: Ask for bottled water in flight to be sure you’re avoiding airplane tap water.
Pack Your TSA-Approved Rest & Relaxation Routine
An important part of a successful trip is getting enough rest and rejuvenation, and this can be difficult if you’re factoring in time zone changes, red-eye flights, and delays. The great news is, theTSA recently updated their rules to now allow certain cannabis-infused products, including CBD oil with less than 0.3% THC in carry-on and checked bags. So now you can take your favorite CBD companions with you in flight to ease stress + tension, or keep your regular Inesscents skin care routine intact when you arrive.
Traveling can involve a lot of hurry up and wait. Before it’s time for “wheels up,” there are a couple of ways you can be sure that you’re staying active and keeping your energy vibrant while you’re away.
Customize a short 5-10 minute workout that requires no weights or equipment but that gets your body moving. You can prep a small yoga sequence or even just a few tension busting poses to keep you balanced, find an online bodyweight workout or cardio dance routine app to play on your phone or other device(s) that you can hit play on anywhere, anytime. But if a workout routine isn’t your idea of fun on vacation…
Plan out some fun sight-seeing and choose to walk or even bike while you take in the surroundings of your destination. There’s really no better way to see a new place then when you walk around it. Ask your hotel concierge (or locals!) to provide you a city map and point out some of their favorite city highlights.
Accommodation for Wellness
While it’s not always possible to get an all equipped air-bnb or self-service hotel, landing accommodation that allows you to self-cater can be really beneficial to supporting a more stable routine. For example, if your accommodation has a kitchen, you can hit up the local coop or grocery store and stock up on some of your go-to eats. If you kickstart your day with a fresh breakfast smoothie or whip up a home-cooked meal the more likely you’ll find that down to earth, in your body feeling. Offset the joys of eating out in a new place by keeping what you can stable, and maybe even save some money while you’re at it!
Go with the Flow
If there is anything that can be said about traveling it is, that no matter how diligently you plan, there are a million ways for things to go awry. Be flexible and try to roll with what comes. Give yourself permission to enjoy your time away while doing your best with what you’ve got. Sustaining your wellness while you travel will go a long way toward the enjoyment of your trip and will ensure you can easily pick up your day-to-day schedule when you’re homeward-bound.
