How to Shop for CBD

Posted by Heather Brunetti on Sep 4th 2020

Consumers are familiar with seeing CBD everywhere. So what is the best way to choose what products to buy. Many of us look at two simple things when we are choosing a CBD product: CONTENT and COST.

CBD Content is important, but it is NOT everything. Here are some things you should know before making a purchase.

What are the ingredients?

Inesscents has over 20 years of hands on experience working with botanicals and understanding their chemistry. We understand how each ingredient works independently, and the synergy that is created when pairing specific ingredients together. Over the years we have become masters of not only finding a perfect balance in our blends, but also how it translates to all skin types. When we formulated our Relief + Recovery line, we wanted something truly therapeutic and supportive for the body. We started our process with a gentle yet powerful base oil, which contains 8 healing herbs. Our herbal infusion is made with local organic arnica, calendula, chamomile, yarrow, nettle, chickweed, comfrey, and lavender flowers which is then added to a cold-pressed organic carrier oil. This infusion slowly seeps for a minimum of one month to ensure the therapeutic properties of each plant are fully absorbed by the oil. We then strain the oil so it is ready to be added to our formulations. Our base oil is hand blended with full spectrum CBD extract and carefully selected organic essential oils.

Each herb, each flower, each essential oil has an intentional and specific function. Each one compliments the other and most importantly, when working together, they bring balance to the body.

Who is the Company?

Business practices, social and environmental responsibility and quality ingredients are vitally important to us. If these things are important to you, then it makes sense to support a brand that makes you feel good about your purchase. There are hundreds of new CBD companies out there. Some play important roll in the legalization and innovation of hemp, some have strong ethical values, and some are here for the CBD boom. It is important to differentiate between these businesses because you will ultimately end up with very different products. Experience and expertise in the fields of science, health and wellness will produce a superior end product.

Avoid Chemicals and Toxins

Like so many of our consumers, we value the quality of the products we purchase, as well as the efficacy. I know you see us in the store, carefully reading a label before loading it into our cart. When you purchase a can of green beans does it have the same amount of nutrients as fresh organic green beans? Of course not. Canned foods have preservatives, BPAs and other toxins. Skin care is no different. You can ask the same exact questions. Does inexpensive, refined oil have the same amount of nutrients as fresh cold-pressed oil? Again, the answer is a resounding NO. In fact, the skin being the largest organ in the human body absorbs vital nutrients (and toxins alike) at an alarmingly rapid rate.

Using a CO2 extraction process creates a pure, non-toxic, high quality CBD oil. This method is environmentally friendly and eliminates the need for harsh chemicals used in other extraction methods.

So just as mindfully as you are choosing what goes in your body, the same attention should be used with every product you are using ON your body.

What type of CBD is used?

Science loves to extract out one active element in a plant and use it to treat the body. That is exactly what ‘CBD isolate’ is. It is CBD, and CBD only. This process isolates CBD out from its profoundly important plant counterparts like CBC, CBG, CBL, CBN – the list goes on… This method has its value and place, but botanically speaking holistic magic happens when you are using the hemp plant the way nature intended. Many have heard of the entourage effect – meaning the efficacy is far greater when all plant parts and components are harmoniously working together. This information should be clearly marked on the ingredient listing.

Talk to friends, neighbors and store employees

We talk to customers every day who have been referred by their chiropractor, doctor, trainer, father, mother, sister, brother. Although we are in health food stores nationwide, word of mouth is by far the best testament. It is real people and real experiences.

We are extraordinarily proud of our formulations and how they have impacted so many. And we are grateful to put something out into the world that benefits bodies, minds, environment, communities, farmers, and the whole. Because above all things – we hold ourselves accountable to moving a step closer to how we want to show up for one another.
