Thanksgiving is over, and now it’s on to Hanukkah, Kwanza, Christmas and more. But before celebrating at rapid speed, plan some time for yourself. The holidays, as fun as they are, always come with a bit of stress. There are a lot of factors during the holiday season that you can’t control, but one thing you can take charge over is your self-care routine.
Self-care is crucial to making it through the wild holiday season. Taking time away from the crazy allows you to stay grounded and be your best self. Ignore the voices saying you don’t have the time - or that making yourself a priority is selfish. Taking care of yourself enables you to help others, be more present and feel relaxed. So, pencil in some “me time” and say hello to the holidays!
Ways to Sleigh Your Self-Care...

This is a two for one! A good night's sleep is associated with a host of health benefits, from immune system strength to recovery time, a heated bath before bed is apparently a good way to ensure that you drift off to the Land of Nod without too much difficulty.
It all has to do with temperature and hormones. A drop in body temperature at night is one of the classic signals for the body to start producing melatonin, the hormone that induces sleep. Our bodies get colder at night naturally: our body temperature lowers approximately two hours before bed and lasts until about 4am. Kick-starting that downward shift by heating yourself up artificially is an old trick to get yourself to feel sleepy. Get out of a bath, cool yourself down for a while, then slip into bed. 3. Eat Well:
While this often appears on our blogs, eating well is a cornerstone of inner happiness and well-being. It can be challenging through the holidays with an abundance of overly processed sweets and treats. Some of the best food out there comes to us in the form of fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables. Cranberries, persimmons, oranges, grapes, toasted chestnuts, caramelized pecans, warm steamed okra and roasted carrots n’ beets are all awesome treats of the season. Nom to that! You can spoil your senses and not ‘pay the price’. Know that it’s absolutely okay to indulge yourself and have some fun (maybe even enjoy a CBD Mocktail or two) but balance is key. Don’t lose yourself to the December candy, man.
Yup, another repeat of something we recommend doing all the time but can fall away during the busyness of the season. If you’re in an area where the snow hits the ground, enjoy activities such as sledding, skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing or making snow angels. That being said, if you’re in a region that sees summer like temperatures, you can still #optoutside and keep it fresh! Take a hike, ride your bike or find the nearest body of water and enjoy. Staying active will make everything else in your life that much easier.
5. Give Yourself the Gift of Gratitude:
This time of year is all about being with the people you love and showing mutual appreciation for each other. Take a deep breath and let that sink in for a moment. It’s so easy to rattle off all the things we have to do that we don’t recognize all the things we get to do.
We get to see our loved ones and friends. We get to spend time with colleagues outside the office. We get to give and receive gifts. We get to travel. We might even get some extra PTO.
Shifting into gratitude for these things turns them into blessings rather than responsibilities.
To take this a step further, think about someone in your life who may not have as busy a calendar this time of year as you do and invite them to join one of your celebrations. Your kindness will change their experience and add an element of gratitude and appreciation to your own. Win-win! 30 minutes of your time + effort could make someone else’s entire day. Your energy is powerful.
